Training Tips - Teach Your Dog How To Behave Around Company

With the holidays coming to a close it is easy to forget how your dog behaved while guests entered your home. Yes, they have the right to greet your guests yet they need to behave in an appropriate manner in order for all to enjoy. Below are a few suggestions that might be helpful to work with your doggie before your next guests visit into your home.

1. Start with no one on the other side of the door.
2. Begin by secretly ringing the doorbell or knock on the door when no one is there which will give you lots of time to practice.
3. Give your dog(s) a little something to chew on such as a Crumps’ Natural Sweet Potato rawhide to keep them busy and calmer. If they are not interested then add in a more valuable item which will encourage them to chew and enjoy while your “imaginary” guests arrive.
4. You can also throw a few treats on the floor for immediate consumption and have a larger reward as they settle down for a distracting chew.
5. Then tell them “On your bed” to encourage them to lie down while you enjoy the time with your company.
6. Practice with understanding people who don’t mind taking the time to settle your dog(s) to lie down on their beds to relax.
7. The key is to give them some attention for any and all appropriate behavior that you are happy with such as them settling down on their own.

Jema - looking for perfect mate

We wanted to let you know that things are going very well with Jema. She continues to be very sweet and affectionate.

Also, we are looking for a perfect mate as Jema will be ready for breeding soon! The male characteristics which we are looking for are:
- sweet temperament
- great health
- doodle mix

If you have a suitable mate for Jema then please do let me know at Marcia@happyhound.ca and I would be happy to see a photo as well.

Max

Max has graduated from our Happy Hound training program. He is completely trained and is available to have a new beginning with a special family.

New Delivery Service

We are very happy to introduce to you our new toy/food/treat delivery service!

The first Thursday of every month, we can deliver to your door a variety of toys, treats or dog food to your home. This will eliminate unnecessary trips to the local pet food stores and endless choices/decisions on what are the best options for your doggie.

We recently decided to become a distributor for the Taste of the Wild dog foods which are a higher quality food for a reasonable price. If you would like to be placed on our delivery service, please let me know.
