Calling All Puppies!

Puppy Play and Learn sessions on Wednesdays @ 6:00pm

This is an opportunity where you can bring your puppy to play in an off leash & safe environment. Below are the session details that works well with our new 4 legged friends. This is an ongoing event on Wednesday evenings.

Pack Walks with Training include:

6:00-6:15pm - Walk to the creek and circle the small secure hayfield
6:15-6:25pm - Play Hide & Seek near the barns (to help them key an eye on you!)
6:25-7:00pm - Walk to the pond
7:00-7:15pm - Training with the puppies near the barns
Ask the trainer any questions at any time!

Training with puppies will include:

1. Commands - variety such as Sit, Down, Stay, Off, Come
2. Teach your doggie to fetch a frisbee/ball
3. Quick Trick
4. How to groom your puppy so they love it! Toweling off your puppy peacefully.
5. Ask the trainer any questions!

The Happy Hound private dog park is located at 2150 Dwyer Hill Road.

There are 110 acres of land with trails for you to come and walk your doggies on. We have a variety of 1 hr workshops along with trail memberships available. Come check us out & book your doggie tee-time for a complimentary trail walk! Bring some friends and enjoy some time together with your doggies.

We have been thrilled about how popular our workshops have been.  All the puppies and doggies who have been attending our programs are definitely enjoying themselves. Here are some workshops that are booking up fast for July:

Training Tips - Home Alone

Sometimes our doggies need to stay by themselves and some dogs are required to do this on a daily basis. There are several ways to keep them happy while you have gone to work or needed to leave the house while they stay on their own.

Here are some training tips to help your doggie be on their own.

1. Anytime anyone enters the house, completely ignore your dog for 5 minutes. Easier said then done! If you give them huge amounts of attention while you are in the house, they will think that every time someone is in the house then attention happens yet every time people leave it’s not so fun to be by themselves. This will help them realize that they are completely fine on their own.
   
   
2. If you want to give your dog some attention then putter around the house for a few minutes then instead of wrestling, petting or snuggling with your dog, take them around the block…after about 5 minutes of ignoring them. Just to clarify, ignoring means do not touch, talk or even look at them.
   
   
3. Your dog needs a 30 minute walk a day minimum. As a suggestion, each person in the house can choose their day to walk the dog. This will not only burn them out physically yet really turn them into a family dog rather than just one person’s dog. Some days you might not be able to do your 30 minutes…give them whatever amount of walk/run/bike/rollerblade/skateboard that you can.
   
   
4. Have your dog follow you around the house as this will help tire them out physically.
   
   
5. Once a week, take them to an off leash area where they can walk and play with other dogs. When you bring them to a place then keep walking with them. They can have a good sniff/play with the other dogs then keep walking so that the play doesn't get too intense; however, this will still give them the opportunity to see other dogs and tire them out. We have several new options at our new Happy Hound Dog Park.
   
   
6. 5 minutes before you leave the house, please give your dog a Bullwrinkle stick, stuffed bone with canned dog food mixed with their kibble or stuffed leftovers in a bone from the freezer (which means someone will have to prepare these stuffed bones once a week and have them handy for the last person who leaves the house). If there are no more stuffed frozen bones in the freezer then grab one of the frozen fresh bones (a very inexpensive way of entertaining them) which can be purchased from the grocery store.
   
   
7. Key: Once your dog is totally focused on their bone (probably about 30 seconds to 1 minute) then quietly grab your keys, jacket and put your shoes on then leave. We need to start to associate with the last person leaving with “Wow, I get a great bone or Bullwrinkle when they leave”.
   
   
8. Upon your return, do not touch, talk or even look at them for at least 5 minutes. Go over and gently open the crate or room that they were in and take them outside without saying anything at all. Also pick up the bone and place it away until the next time the last person leaves the house.

If want to master your dog to “Sit” then anything that they like/want to tell them to “Sit” first. Once they sit then give them the bone, toy, ball, outside or take off leash for a play with other dogs. Try it out for 1 week.
