Training Tips - How to Crate Train Your Puppy

This is Izzy who came to me for crate training and I want to walk you through how to crate train your puppy.

Izzy crate training

  1. Set up a puppy pen and place the crate inside the puppy pen.
  2. I always leave them full access to food and water while they are in the puppy penned in area.
  3. I always sleep beside their crate for the first 5 nights.
  4. When you leave them during the day then give them lots of items to keep them occupied for at least 5 minutes while you leave and 10 minutes after you are gone.
  5. I always leave on music for added comfort.
  6. Ignore them 5 minutes before you leave and 5-10 minutes after you arrive back home.
  7. When you open the puppy penned area, do so without eye contact and without talking to them or any attention.
  8. Take them out for a bathroom break and reward any elimination..

If you have any questions at all on these training tips then please send me an email at Marcia@happyhound.ca or give me a call 613-253-5535, and I will walk you through the process and give you extra tips to help with your success.

Training Programs

I am excited to let you know that there are some great new training programs available for puppy owners who have a new addition to their families. These programs are designed to help you in your home with your puppy to build a better relationship. Puppies are purchased yet training is the key to a successful relationship with your puppy. Please check out the various programs!

Riggs

We can’t thank Marcia enough for the time she has spent teaching us how to train our dog. This experience has made such a profound beginning to our training with Riggs.

He was so receptive to Marcia’s training due her patience and expertise. In just two hours Riggs was sitting, lying down, coming when called, staying and wouldn’t touch his treat right in front of his nose.

Riley Happy Hound

I was amazed at how receptive our puppy was in such a short time. We have been able to continue these strategies at home as well as our two daughters who are 7 and 9.

Marcia has followed up with us on a few occasions to see how Riggs has been, answering any questions we had. Marcia’s guidance in the early learning of our puppy has led to a successful and positive addition to our family.

I truly believe that puppy training is very important to form that special bond and that is why we highly recommend Marcia.

Featured Treat

Tricky Treat ballThe Kong Wobbler is a fantastic toy for all types of dogs especially your doggie who loves a challenge. This is a great toy which mentally challenges them. Just take their regular dog food that you would feed them for breakfast or dinner and place it in the Kong Wobbler. Feel free to add a few extra treats if you would like to make it even more motivating to get their dinner. Then place it on the floor. It is best if you just leave the Wobbler on the floor and let them work on getting their food. So instead of feeding your dog their food in a bowl, try the Kong Wobbler to challenge your dog mentally.
